3 - Controversies | The Gospel of Mark

Understanding the Gospel requires more than just reading it. The key to correct interpretation lies in knowing the human condition, the basic law of all things and the unchanging structure and functions of man, which are nourished by love. This knowledge is the spiritual compass for understanding the Holy Scripture. Through Adam's self-deception, man lost his connection to God and bound himself to man and Satan. Only through a change can the connection to God be restored.

In order to reconnect man with God, God had to conceive his Son in Mary with the right connection. And we also need this newly created “connecting cable” to reconnect us to God. So what were the tasks of Jesus Christ during his earthly existence, both internally and externally? Let's take a closer look. In his Gospel, Mark reports on Jesus as a teacher (Mark 1: 21-22). What was different about Jesus' teachings? What were the scholars appalled by?

Jesus Christ taught with authority and absoluteness, healed the sick and cast out demons. He touched people, ate with them without distinction and freed them from their inner distress. His teachings were thought-provoking and focused on the inner self. These unusual actions led to controversy with the scholars of his time.

The cause of illness lies in a false attachment to people rather than to God. Illnesses serve to reveal this connection to us and make us aware of our inner problem. Even the Pharisees and scribes thought that illness was the result of the Fall and not of their own wrong attachment to people. Without the illness and difficulties in our lives, we would not be able to recognize that we have a problem within ourselves.

The series “The Gospel of Mark” will go into more detail about what this means in the third part.
